Do you need a plumber? Do you have a plumbing emergency? If so, you need to make sure that you have certain plumbing services performed during the year. Doing so will make you rest easier when it comes to keeping your drains free of obstructions and maintaining the flow through your pipes.
1. Keep the Sink’s Drains Clear
A plumber can provide you with enzymes to keep your drains clear and keep them flowing as they should. Never use corrosive drain cleaners as they will only damage your pipes. By using the enzymes that a plumber recommends, you can keep your drains clear of buildups and save your pipes at the same time.
2. Get Rid of the Grease
It is best not to dispose of grease down the sink. However, if you do, you can have your lines power jetted to free the lines of grease. When the lines are finally free-flowing and less sluggish, you need to make sure that you avoid throwing oils or grease down the kitchen drain. It is also a good idea to place a strainer over the drain the bathtub to keep it clear of soap scum and hair. Also, make sure to use copious amount of cold water, not hot water, when clearing a drain. If your line already contains grease, hot water will only soften the residue and cause it to coat your pipes.
3. Have Your Hot Water Heater Checked
You do not want to have your hot water heater checked only when it exhibits a pool of water beneath it. Instead, you need to have an annual inspection made to make sure that you eliminate any problems with leaks. If you find that your hot water heater needs replacement, you might consider replacing it with a tankless hot water heater. This type of hot water heater only uses hot water when needed. Therefore, it can be valuable to anyone who wants to save money on his or her energy heating costs.
4. Have Your Pipes Video Inspected
Do you believe that you may have hidden leaks? Maybe you want to investigate a slow-moving drain more in depth. If so, you should have a video inspection made of the line. Make sure that nothing is obstructing the line and that it is in good repair. Many hidden leaks are found when video inspections are made. The plumber simply inserts a camera down the line to see if any defects or clogs are getting in the way of your plumbing’s operation.
5. Get Any Leaks Fixed Immediately
If you notice some small leaks in your pipes or faucets, you need to have them repaired immediately. Do not wait to have this type of repair made as doing so could lead to a major flood at a later date. While a small leak does not seem to be a cause for concern, it can indeed lead to some major trouble if it is not immediately fixed. Never wait to fix any small leak as it can turn into a catastrophe in a short matter of time.
