Born in Serbia, the Balkans, Danny Caran spent her childhood drawing and playing outdoors in hot summers and cold winters.

After finishing the School of Art & Design, she moved to Stockholm to attend a one-year Graphic Design course. Upon finishing the program, she first moved to Rome, followed by Naples, until she finally settled down in Treviso, northen Italy. With nomadic style of life and Balkan spirit, she finds inspiration in travels, people, music, nature, and old traditional Balkan stories about ferries.

Romantic and poetic femine-shaped figures are the most common themes in her work, along the original and decorative images from the world of fantasy, beauty and fashion.

We interviewed her recently and was immediately blown away by her latest illustrations entitled Magic Wood.

Hi Danny! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Ciao, I'm Danny Caran, graphic artist, fashion illustrator and trendsetter based in
Treviso, Italy. I like to take a walk in the old medieval city and in the late afternoon, before dinner I enjoy a traditional Italian aperitivo in allegra compagnia. (aperitif in good company). By the way, my favorite is Spritz with Aperol or Campari, with green olives.

When did you discover your love for drawing?
Since I know myself, I find my own magic world.

Where do you get your ideas and inspirations from?
I'm always attracted by the novelty, changes, new places, new different people, interesting conversations and all of this give me the positive energy to create.

Which of your projects are you most proud of?
Especially I love The Magic Wood Collection which includes three drawings of three different Retro Chic women's Creatures in connection with nature. They also remind me in some of particularly episode of my life.

What are your favourite tools to work with?
Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Set is my absolute favorite because it gives me the freedom to create my own lines and texture. Also, the scanner, Mac and a lot of good music and positive energy.

Who do you dream of working with?
I would like to be Ruben Toledo's assistant, or if is not possible because he is so busy, keep calm and have one drink together in Manhattan.

What do you find most fulfilling being an illustrator?
I understand very early that drawing has a very important role in my life. It's like my avatar which follows me always wherever I am, make a part of me and make me feel creatively fulfilled.

If you could only work with one colour, which one would it be, and why?
Black of course. Black is the most misunderstood color. It is also mysterious, providing a sense of potential and possibility. Women can wear that "must have little black dress" to the dinner. Also, Coco Chanel Noir, elegant black version of the classic Chanel bottle.

Where is the one place on the planet you have dreamed of visiting?
I travel a lot and I like our planet earth. I would like to go to India, hope not will be always just my dream, like many other Indian people dream to visit
Europe. Let our dreams come true.

What would you do if you win a million dollars?
Travel, travel and travel and never stop, see the new places and faces, meet the new cultures and listen to strange languages that never you heard of.
