Hi Kyoko! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi, my name is Kyoko Munakata, a freelance photographer based in London. I was born in Japan and moved to London in 2011. Ever since I was small I've been a daydreamer, creating imaginative worlds and scenes in my head, and through photography I’m unraveling them over time. I want my photos to be emotional, ethereal and fragile that people can relate to.

Where did you draw inspiration from for your 'Unrequited Love' shoot?
In my everyday life I write down ideas when things come up in my head, and in this shoot I was able to recreate one of them. Fresh flowers and dried rose flowers in my room, a portrait of Virgin Mary from Lourdes, and my past experiences have inspired me for this shoot.

What are the gears you used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II with 24-70mm lens and 2 Bowens 1500w

When did you first take up photography?
My father was a fan of photography and often took many photos, so as a child, photography has always been around me. I bought my first camera when I was about 18.

What was your first DSLR camera?
Canon 1D Mark II

Do you prefer to shoot in film or digital?
Recently I’ve been taking digital photos and adding on to them. Now I feel like moving onto minimalistic photos that are simple and have strong presence on their own, and I want to do this in film photography too.

Who are the photographers whose work you admire?
Javier Valhonrat and Paolo Roverci. I’m always mesmerized with their mystical worlds they create through their photos, and the beautiful calmness their photos have.

Tell us something a few people know about you.
I’m such a crybaby. Whenever I get emotional tears appear in my eyes. When I’m happy, and of course when I’m sad. Also when I see a beautiful sky, listen to heartrending music, when I meet amazing people, just in so many occasions I will have tears. My tears are a part of the system that maintains my emotional balance, so it’s always with me. I try not to cry in front of people, but my tears allow me to become honest so they are very important to me.

What are your favourite lens to shoot at?
I don't have a particular favorite, since it always changes time to time. I’m just replacing the angle and width of the image in my head with the camera lens.

Are you a Mac or PC fan?
Mac fan. I looove it! I cannot live without my Mac now.

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Dreamer, emotional, stubborn

Now that you are based in London, which Japanese food do you miss the most?
Soba with tempura and okonomi-yaki!!!

Show us 3 of your favourite pictures you have taken.
I attached 3 pictures please find them.

Would you share with our readers photography tips and advices which you think must not be missed out on?
Just to live with all strength, and always feel. Because everything that you see, feel, and meet create you, and that will be reflected in your photos. If you don’t have an image you cannot take photos. I feel that self-development is the true key to taking good photos.

What would you do if you have a million bucks?
I would want to travel all around the world, and take photos at places with an one and only view, that cannot be seen anywhere else.
