Katie Walters is a digital illustrator based in Ontario, Canada with a love for art and fashion. There's nothing we love than the combination of the two elements together. Not to mention that her digital illustrations are a feast!

Read on to get to know her a little better!

Hi Katie! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I create illustrations for fashion and lifestyle publications and websites. I studied illustration at Niagara College of Art and Technology here in Southern Ontario, Canada. Although digital illustration is my specialty, I also create fine art on canvas.

Where do you get your ideas and inspirations from?
Impressionism is my biggest influence. To me, impressionism pushes expression, freedom, poetry, and romance into an artistic concept and mindset. I’m all about bringing that impressionistic approach into computer arts. Furthermore I get a lot of inspiration from books, music and cinema.

What do you have to tell from your illustrations and paintings?
Pattern and color are the main features of my artwork. I paint with a Wacom tablet and Photoshop CS4. The never-ending pursuit of information helps with idea generation and understanding.

In your own words, define art.
Art is fantasy mingling and partying with reality. It is a representation not of what is exactly seen but rather of what is experienced.

Art is an expression to show us something about our world that photography can not. Art is used to imagine and share worlds and concepts nonexistent except to the human eye. When cameras became available available to capture real life, art changed. Think impressionism, followed by formless abstract, and now the age of computer art. Art is creation, intelligence and evolution.

Any upcoming projects or work we should look forward to?
Currently I’m working on a series of acrylic paintings in the style of my digital illustrations. The largest sized painting of the bunch was created in response the disaster in Japan and will be on exhibit at AyrSpace Gallery in Ontario for the month of July.

If you could only work with one colour, which one would it be?
Monochromatic blues are awesome so definitely blue.

What would you do if you've won a million dollars?
After tithing some to the IFAW, I would fly to Paris for a few months, and of course I’m dying to see Asia as well.
